Kent McCarty is a lifelong resident of Lamar County. He is a product of the Lamar County Public School District, from kindergarten through graduation. He is the son of Morgan and Angela McCarty, a banker at Regions and principal at Longleaf Elementary School, respectively.
At the age of nineteen, Kent opened the first location of Java Moe’s Coffee Company in Oak Grove. He went on to attend the University of Southern Mississippi as a Presidential Scholar, where he graduated with a degree in finance. He continued to grow and expand Java Moe’s during that time. The business now employs more than fifty people, and will soon see its fifth location open under Kent’s leadership and direction.
He has served on the board of the Pinebelt Foundation for 4 years as a member of the Development Committee, where he has taken part in community outreach and fundraising.
Since opening Java Moe’s, Kent has worked to ensure that the business maintains an active presence in the community, often sponsoring local events and encouraging employees to volunteer and serve. He is passionate about addressing issues and seeing projects and commitments through to completion. He is a business owner, a homeowner, and has spent his life building relationships in this community. His roots here run deep. He is committed to serving this district, whether by fundraising for disaster relief efforts, handing out a steaming cup of coffee at a local race, or by representing District 101 in the state capitol.
